I had an opportunity to write an article for The Cliffhangar, a light hearted good news paper! In case you missed it you can find it here.
This got me thinking a bit more about how to make your wedding day photography a bit smoother! With nearly 200 weddings of experience I’ve seen what couples have done right and what have become tales of warning!
For this post I’ll focus on getting ready.
Whether you’re the bride or the groom getting ready with your girls, guys or together, you should make sure that your place is clean. Hide away the clutter in at least one room, make sure the mirrors are clean and have all the little details out and ready. These include your invitation, cufflinks, rings, flowers, jewelry, etc…. If your place isn’t conducive to getting ready consider renting a hotel room or asking a friend to host your getting ready activities.
It’s important to make sure that all the important people are present and ready. This includes your bridesmaids, groomsmen, brothers, sisters, parents and anybody else you deem super important. At the house is usually the best time to do your immediate family photos as well as the getting ready photos. This will save you time later in the day.
Make sure you schedule enough time for hair and make-up. As the bride you should always be the first in the chair, followed by mom and the maid of honour. It’s a waste of your photography time and puts the day behind when the bride is the last person to get ready! You’re the star of the day so being ready is important!
Eat!!!! It’s important to make sure both you and your bridal party are well fed! Have sandwiches, fruit and veggies or anything else you like to eat to feed your bridal party and family! It’s going to be a long day and you need fuel! Don’t forget the water, you’ll need to stay hydrated!
No matter what you plan for the day be prepared to go with the flow! Make sure your vendors have the proper times and addresses and your day will go much smoother! Have a couple of back-ups in place just in case. For example on one wedding the limo didn’t show up because the limo company had written down the wrong date! This is where your contracts are super important and check the details, luckily in this case they just jumped in the car to get to the church!
We hope these tips are helpful because it’s easy to get caught up in the moment but if you have a good plan in place then when things don’t go quite as planned you won’t be nearly as frazzled about finding a solution!
