Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of photographing all kinds of weddings for my own clients or for other studios. I’ve photographed big lavish affairs and small intimate affairs but my favourite weddings are the ones where the couple is not afraid to show their emotions with their friends and family! They laugh, they cry, they share their joy!
It doesn’t matter if a day goes exactly as planned. Some of my favourite photos have come from plans going awry!
Take Caitlin and Jeff’s wedding at Fantasy Farm back in the summer of 2011. It was a small and intimate affair with their loved ones! It was also very important for them to include their children in the day!
Caitlin arrived at Fantasy Farm on time but her dress was a bit delayed!
This resulted in some beautiful headshots of the bride before she put on her dress! We also got a few shots of the groom before the dress arrived!
When the dress arrived Caitlin put it on and we had some fun in the bridal suite with her family! We then explored the venue for some beautiful light to create some stunning bridal portraits!
When it was time for the ceremony it was probably one of the most challenging areas I’ve ever had to shoot in. Because it was the height of summer the garden area in front of the ceremony site was quite high and difficult to get an angle on! This forced us to get creative on where we could shoot from to capture those important and special moments!
When the ceremony was finished we had the challenge of keeping all the family and bridal party together to get those important moments! We of course got them but it always presents a greater challenge to not forget somebody when people tend to wander off! This is not an unusual situation when the ceremony and reception are at the same venue!
When we dismissed the bridal party it was an opportunity for the bride and groom to spend a bit of time together without anybody else! Again a challenge because we had guests popping over to see how things were going! This forced us to work a bit quicker on their portraits in order to get to the happy couple to the cocktail hour!
Because Caitlin and Jeff had two young children they weren’t concerned when their daughter joined them on the dance floor for their first dance, they had decided that they would just go along with whatever the day unfolded even if it wasn’t exactly as they had planned!
The rest of the party was a blast for both the newlyweds and all their guests!
